Every few years the red soil produces outstanding merlot. 2001 was such a year. The 2001 Merlot is exhibiting big plum and quince characteristics on the nose, with real spic of oak on the finish. This wine has spent 18 months in a combination of French and American oak but still the fruit dominates.
